Social Media/ Use of new media

This is how my magazine will use social media to promote and keep people up to date with my magazine.

Masthead Designs

These are the different designs for the logo I have chosen the name of my magazine "InD". I explain what is good and what is bad about each of them.

Mood Board

This is a mood board to show what influenced the design of my magazine. The images I have put on here show you what type of bands I based my models on, their logos also helped me to chose the mane of my band HA4. the main influence for the name of my magazine "InD" came from NME because it was short and simple which is what I also wanted. I also chose the same colour scheme as the magazines above. My double page spreads are also similar to the ones I have put in this mood board as they are simple and easy to look at, also the big photo on one side makes it look professional. The live lounge pictures are what I want the audience to visualize my artists as. They can perform live and are not artificial.

Cover Lines

My magazine cover lines.

On my magazine I will be putting different sell lines to attract the attention of customers.
these are the ones I have put on my draft:

Main article sell line:
HA4 - The boys talk to us about their past year touring

The following sell lines will all be one after the other to show the content of the magazine:
Dayna Willis
Bethan Boyden - New Boyfriend
Michael Bennett - Is he really leaving the limelight?

Featured artists:
Arctic Monkeys
The 1975
The Kooks
Florence and the machine
The Killers

I then have in the top right cover of my front cover in big letters "Win Reading Tickets" to add a unique selling point to my magazine which others may not offer.

Audience Data

I have had a look at the feedback from my survey and this has helped me decide what style my magazine will be. I have also chosen things like the price and additional content from this feedback.

Existing Mastheads

This is an analysis of existing music magazine mastheads. I talk about the target audience and what effects they have on them and why they attact certain people. I have taken some inspiration from some of these names for my own magazine.

Ideas

These are a few of my ideas for the names of my indie music magazine and the name for the boyband that my feature article will be about. I need to decide what one I will be using so I can move on to creating my magazine with the names on.

Photoshoot

Last monday I hosted a photoshoot at the school, I bought in 5 of my friends from outside of school. Here are a few examples of the photos I took:

Wednesday 19 November 2014

Photos I have taken

I have taken some photos at previous concerts and I thought I could use some of them in my magazine.

Behind the scenes of photoshoot

On monday i did a photo shoot for my magazine. I had 6 models in to help me and they all allowed me to take photos to use. I have 3 main people for my front cover who will pose as a boy band, I decided this because it it different and there are a lot of indie connotations with bands. I also have 2 girls to go in my contents page and one boy. I used girls and boys to add variation and to ensure I am appealing to the widest target market I can.

Lesson 13

I continued adding to my contents page by adding some titles and substitute pictures. I also put in some substiture text where i am going to put all my text on the contents page. This helps me design the page as Igo and I can just put in the right text when I need to. I need to think of a name for my magazine so I can also start to design the logo or name to be put in the conrer of my magazine. I used the colour red to make it stand out as many exiting magazines currently use this technique.

Draft Proposal

This is my draft proposal for my music magazine. It is a summary of what I am thinking of basing my ideas on and what I would like my magazine to symbolise and who it would be aimed at. I will type this up in more deatail after I have got feedback off other people who have read it.

Lesson 12

This lesson we started to make the out line for our contents page. I used video tutorials to show me how to use the programme. I need to continue makin the frame work and plan my design so it best suits my target audience.

Lesson 11

This lesson I added a lot to my blog. I uploaded y codes and conventions and institutions. I also did a blog tidy up so my presentation is better and I was able to navigate it easier. I also looked into what I need to add to my blog for example I need to analyse my responses to my questionnaire.

Wednesday 5 November 2014

Institution

This is a slide show about the institution that produce NME, a music magazine. This is talking about how often they produce the mgazines and why. Also, what else they do to keep people interested.

Audience

I Researched into the purpose of a music magazine for the audiences and why they are produced. I need this to look at my magazine ideas as i need to know what the purpose of my magazine is.

Conventions of Music Magazines.

This is the general codes and conventions of music magazines. I did some research into what is meant to be and what is generally on the front covers of magazines and why. This has helped me to see what I need to lay my magazine out like to look successful.

Monday 27 October 2014

Lesson 10

Transscript: This lesson I created my questionnaire. I made this for market research to look into the style of music magazine the public wants and what they look for. . I made sure I used different styles of questions so I could get a variety of responses like qualitative and quantitative.. I asked questions that gave me an idea of what my magazine should include.

Aditional information:
I sent out the link to get people to fill it out on my twitter and Facebook to get as many responses as possible. When I have a decent amount of responses I will analyse the feedback and begin to brain storm my ideas further.

My Music Magazine Survey

Create your free online surveys with SurveyMonkey , the world's leading questionnaire tool.
I made this so I could research into what types of music magazines people would like. This is finding out the customer wants and needs so I can adjust my magazine to them and therefore it will be more popular.

Lesson 9

This lesson I decided to finish my iconography of Indie music as this is the style of music I will probably base my magazine on. This required me to do quite a bit of research and find a lot of pictures. I also learnt how to use Prezi as I have never used it before. It took me a while to figure out the layout. I have decided who I will ask to do the photo shoot for me, I have 3 from outside of school and maybe 2 from inside. I have asked if I can do a bot group on the front cover as I think this will look more interesting than just one person. Also, I have the idea of doing a photo shoot outside of school because it will add interesting backgrounds and individuality to my magazine. Also the use of other back grounds means I will have more photos to choose from as I would like a variety of choices.

Representation of Indie Music

This is a prezi about the representation of Indie music and atrists. I talk about how Indie artists dress and style themselves. This is helpful because I can refere to it for when I am styling my models for my photoshoots as I am doing an indie magazine.

Research of 3 Double Page Spreads

I analysed some double page spreads. This gave me an idea of what I want to do with my own magazine when I have to start making designs. I looked at differnt styles to see what flows and what is easy to read, also what grabs the readers attention. All of this has to be taken into concideration for my own magazine. I didnt like the first article I analysed as it was too small and I feel mine has to have a lot of information to look detailed and busy. Also the photos werent layed out very well. However I wont do one like the last double spread (arctic monkeys) as I dont feel it has enough information on it, although it does get the readers attention.

Wednesday 8 October 2014

Lesson 8

This lesson i continued with my double page spread analysis. This is going well and i have found lots to write about. Next lesson I need to continue with analysis as I havent finished yet. Also i am going to start asking people to model for my magazine photo shoot as I will begin takin photos soon so I am prepared ahead of starting the real magazine.

Lesson 7

This lesson I started to analyse double page spreads. First I had to chose some good ones to use. Here are some I had to chose from. However I didnt use these as I found some more which were easier to analyse and I personally found more interesting.

Wednesday 1 October 2014

Research of 3 Contents Pages

My analysis of contents pages helped me to see what i needed on mine. I looked at different lay outs and genres of music and how this influenced how the contents page was set out. This had helped me because I can use some ideas to put into my magazine and imporve it when I start to make some designs. I tried to chose 3 different styles of contents pages because it gave me more to write about and gave me an insight to different types for different audiences.

Reasearch of 3 Music Front covers

This is my evaluation of existing music magazine front covers. I did this because it helps me look into detail at why certain things are there and what magazines generally have. I also now know what appeals to certain audiences and that the colours, pose and clothing of the artist matters and resembles their music style. So I can use this evaluation to look at my magazine when I make it to improve it as much as I can. and i can also take insperation for my own designs.

Lesson 6

This lesson I continued evaluating the front covers of existing successful magazines as i missed last lesson and couldnt access my work. However, I need to get the front cover evaluations from home as they didnt send properly on my e-mail. I moved onto the analysis of the contents pages. These were hard to find so I had to email them to myself. Once I had these I moved on to commenting on them for example the colour schemes and fonts. This was made easier as I found some online help. I just need to finish analysing them for homework and then upload them on slide share then to my blog. I think my magazine will be like NME as I like the style of music theyreport about and their layout and photo stype looks really good. I think analysing the past magazines has helped me decide as I've seen other stypes of music magazines. I have also had a look at other students magazines and taken thoughts from them.

Lesson 5

Today I started to annotate and comment on music magazine covers. I started on one with Jake Bugg, making comments on the title, colours, photos and tag lines. I finished the first one but I still have 2 left to do. I will do one of Jessie J on a Top of the Pops and one of Cheryl Cole on Q.

Lesson 4

This lesson I tidied up my blog. I had to upload a powerpoint of my photos that i didnt use and my preliminary task ideas and sketches. I then went on to evaluate my preliminary task, and uploaded it to my blog. This was set last week so i also finished it for homework.

Monday 22 September 2014

Evaluation of preliminary task

Evaluation of my preliminary task.

Front page evaluation:

Firstly, my title is HAYDON WEEKLEY. I chose this as a name because it represents the school that the magazine is about and tells us how often the magazine would be coming out. I made the font dark blue with a yellow outline as the girl I have photographed on my cover had her Haydon tie on which is navy and yellow stripes. I put the school badge on the top right side of the page. I got this offline and to improve it I would need to get rid of the white box around the edge making it transparent. This would leave just the emblem not a box around the edge which doesn’t fit in with the magazine. This photo I have as my background is a mid-shot of a student from Haydon. I need to make the resolution clearer for it to look better. This will also make the magazine look more professional. I also need the photo more centred so the text around the edges doesn’t overlap more on one side.

I put the price of the magazine in bold text and made it yellow with as red outline. But to make this stand out further I should make the price bigger so people can see clearly how much it is. Some of the text I put on the front cover is also in yellow to make it tie in with the title and make it a collective theme. This also makes the magazine look more professional. However I should make some other titles stand out like the Haydon links because these won’t be inside the magazine.

Contents page evaluation:

I made the title contents page again navy with a yellow outline to go with the school theme. I also made the numbers for the pages navy as well so it matches. However I would like to make it stand out a bit more. I also would like to add a background next time because it looks too plain. I would also make the Haydon values a clearer picture to make the overall appearance better. And next time I would also make the text under each page title a bit bigger so its clearer to read, also making it just clear black text not a black out line so it looks more professional and less childish. The badge with the white outline looks alight on this page but only because I don’t have a background so next time if I do a background then I would need to get rid of the boarder and make it transparent so it doesn’t show.

Using the programme was quite simple. However I found moving and re sizing the images hard, I did get used to it in the end but I always ended up cropping the picture and not actually making it bigger or smaller.

Final preliminary Task

These are my final designs of my preliminary task, I followed the sketches I made and edited them slightly on the way. This shows my front cover and contents page. I included a head shot of a student at Haydon and some little photos I also took around the school to show the environment. This magazine was a good practice of how to use the softwear as I havent used it before and I will need to for my real magazine.

Original ideas and unused photos

This powerpoint is showing the ideas I had for the name of my magazine, my sketches of my preliminary tasks and the photos that I didnt use in my actual magazine. By doing this I can see what style of photos were better and what ones were not good enough for my magazine. This helps me for the future as I will need to do this for my real magazine and chose which photos are good enough for a magazine.

Wednesday 17 September 2014

Lesson 3

This lesson I finished editing my blog so I added in the labels down the side so it was simpler to move around the blog. I also did my evaluation of my preliminary task. This was of the front cover and contents page. I went through my stregnths weeknesses and how I found using the programme. I also made a screen video this lesson which was hard to start with but got better after I retook them again to make it less jumpy. I also added a photo of my sketches to my first blog 'Lesson1' because it adds variation to my blog. After all this I edited my evaluation of Chelsea's Blog to make it more detailed and interesting.

Monday 15 September 2014

Evaluation Of Previous Students Blog

By looking at Chelsea's blog I can now see what a successful blog has and what I need to do to get a good grade. Also, I can now see what Sir and the examiner is looking for as I haven't done media before so havent had a blog to update. Furthermore I see how much work goes into a blog.

Thursday 11 September 2014

Lesson 2

In this lesson I went on to the computer and made the front cover and contents page that I sketched last lesson. I started by making the title and then added in the mid close up photo of the student I took last lesson. I zoomed it in a bit too so it was all more together. I also added a photo of the school canteen food under the subtitle "Lunch Menu Deals". After adding all the text I moved on to the contents page. This didn't have any background but I did add some photos again to add detail and then got a photo off the Haydon website of the values at the bottom so it wasn't just blank. After I finished I went back and edited some ofthe text to a different font and made some bigger and bold so it stood out like the price. I also changed it so there was some coloured text.

Thursday 4 September 2014

Lesson 1

This lesson we started our draft of the magazine we will be making. It is a school paper and we had to include a mid head shot and a contents page after that. So I drew out on paper my idea of what I want mine to look like followed by the contents page. It has lots of room to improve and gives me an idea of what my final magazine will look like. After I went out and took photos for my magazine/paper around the school and of some students for my front cover. I need to get a copy of the Hayden standards that are placed all over the school and I need the logo to put on my cover.
